The Incuse Indian 1/10 oz Silver Round brings back one of the most daring chapters in American coin design, struck onto a tenth troy ounce of .999 fine silver by Golden State Mint. It reproduces Bela Lyon Pratt's celebrated incuse Indian Head, a design where the imagery is pressed into the coin rather than raised from it. Its small size keeps the entry price low, making it well suited to modest trades, gift-giving, and building a starter collection.
Key Features
- Purity and Weight: 1/10 troy ounce of .999 fine silver
- Metal Type: Investment-grade silver bullion, IRA eligible
- Obverse: A Native American chief in full feathered headdress, ringed by LIBERTY and thirteen stars
- Reverse: A standing eagle on a bundle of arrows and olive branch, with national mottoes
The obverse depicts the left-facing profile of a Native American chief adorned in a war bonnet, its feathers cascading in fine detail past his shoulder. LIBERTY curves along the top rim, while thirteen stars trace the remaining border around the portrait. This design pays tribute to Pratt's original 1908 work for the U.S. $5 and $2.50 gold pieces, the only American coins ever issued in circulation using incuse relief, a method that sank each design element below the coin's surface rather than raising it.
The reverse features Pratt's companion artwork: an eagle standing atop a bundle of arrows entwined with an olive branch, representing the balance between strength and peace. GOLDEN STATE MINT arcs across the top, with E PLURIBUS UNUM to the left and IN GOD WE TRUST to the right. Along the bottom rim, the round's specifications are inscribed: 1/10 OZ .999 FINE SILVER.
